ISTA+ is the same diagnostic application BMW dealers run, and it installs cleanly on any modern Windows 11 laptop. This walkthrough uses our RX-BMW-ICN kit image, but the steps are identical for any ISTA 4.4X build.
What you need
- A 64-bit Windows 10/11 laptop with 8 GB RAM and 120 GB free SSD space.
- The ISTA 4.4X package with matching PSdZData (swdata) files.
- Administrator rights — ISTA installs two system services.
Installation steps
- Run BMWLauncher_Setup as administrator and accept the default path C:\BMW.
- Copy the ISTA folder into C:\BMW\Apps, then copy the PSdZData folder into C:\BMW\PSdZData.
- Open the Launcher, press Settings, and point ISTA path and PSdZData path at the folders above.
- Install the Ediabas and BMW driver packages from the Launcher Tools tab.
- Connect your ENET cable or ICOM, then launch ISTA and read the vehicle order (FA).
The most common failure we see in support is a version mismatch between ISTA and PSdZData — always keep the swdata dates within the same month.
