SCN (Software Calibration Number) coding is Mercedes' way of binding a module to your specific vehicle data card. Any module that carries vehicle-specific variant data — ECU, TCU, airbag, instrument cluster — will not work until it is SCN-coded.
When SCN coding is required
- Replacing an engine ECU, transmission control unit, or instrument cluster.
- Retrofitting equipment: camera, LED headlights, trailer hitch control.
- Restoring a module after firmware recovery or a failed flash.
With our RX-MB-C6 master set, SCN coding runs online through Xentry with the DoIP multiplexer connected — the server returns the calibration string and Xentry writes it automatically. A typical coding session takes 3–5 minutes per module.
Rule of thumb: if Xentry shows a module in "variant coding" state with a missing SCN, do not cycle the ignition until coding is complete.
